'Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives.’ - Tony Robbins

We live in such a distracted world its now more difficult than ever to stay focused on what we really want. Purposeful, clear & often simple thoughts towards our target seem to take up much more energy than they should.

If you can't maintain focus, its likely that you will never achieve your goal or it will take twice as long as it really should have. I know this as too many times, things have taken way longer than they should have, due to letting ‘things’ or ‘people’ distract me, or just simply procrastination.

“Our lives are frittered away by detail … simplify, simplify” – Henry David Thoreau

There is a lot of noise out there. Noise that won't serve you in any way, noise that distracts you at every opportunity. Its up to you to declutter and simplify.

I only have a few short term goals right now and everything else becomes secondary. Each day without fail, I have periods of time blocked out for purposeful periods of work towards my goals, once they're completed, I allow the noise back in.

A few tips on focus:

1.Have a clear vision - Have a clear vision of what it is you want to achieve. If your end goal is somewhat vague, then making decisions on the next step is also going to be unclear.

2. Value your time - Time is our most valuable asset, spread it across the things that matter. Identify the activities that produce the best results and give your time to that.

3. Schedule - Plan in times for your goals.

4. Focus on less - I'm as guilty as anyone for this. Having too many goals is only going to spread yourself thin and create a lack of focus. Focus on the big areas you want to improve first.

5. Get back on track - We all have slip ups and lose focus, as soon as you realise this, jump back on track. Don't slip and slip some more.

6. Accountability -  Hold yourself accountable with someone else, this could be a coach, training partner or girlfriend. Let them know your vision and check in with them regularly.

7. Get started - You know what you have to do.
